حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَوْنُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ؓ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ، النِّفَاقُ الْيَوْمَ أَكْثَرُ أَمْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: " فَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ " وَقَالَ: " أَوَّهْ، وَهُوَ الْيَوْمَ ظَاهَرٌ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَسْتَخْفُونَهُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ I said: O Abu ‘Abd Allah, is hypocrisy today more prevalent, or was it during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said—striking his hand on his forehead—Alas! Indeed, today it is open, whereas they used to conceal it during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
