✧ What prevented my father and me from witnessing Badr was only that I came with him intending to go to the Prophet ﷺ, when the disbelievers of Quraysh intercepted us and said: Where do you intend to go? We said: To Madinah. They said: You intend to go to Muhammad. Give us a covenant by Allah and His pledge that you will turn back to Madinah and not fight with him. So we gave them what they wanted, and they let us go. Then we came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of the news. He said: Fulfill your pledge to them, and we seek Allah's help against them. So they went to Madinah, and we went, and that is what prevented us.
