حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَا: نَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ: نَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ السَّاعِدِيِّ قَالَ:
اسْتَعْمَلَنِي عُمَرُ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْتُ أَمَرَ لِي بِعُمَالَتِي، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّمَا عَمِلْتُ لِلهِ وَأَجْرِي عَلَى اللهِ، قَالَ: خُذْ أَجْرَ مَا عَمِلْتَ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ عَمِلْتُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَمَّلَنِي، فَقُلْتُ مِثْلَ مَا قُلْتَ، فَقَالَ: إِذَا أُعْطِيتَ شَيْئًا مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ تَسْأَلَهُ فَكُلْ وَتَصَدَّقْ

✧ 'Umar, may Allah have mercy on him, appointed me over the sadaqa. When I finished, he ordered a payment for me as my wages. I said, 'I only worked for Allah, and my reward is with Allah.' He said, 'Take the wages for what you did, for I worked during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he gave me wages. I said something like what you said, and he said: If you are given something without asking for it, then eat and give charity.'
