✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to visit a man from the Ansar. When he entered upon him, he placed his hand on his forehead and said: 'How do you find yourself?' The man gave him no answer, so it was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he is distracted from you.' He said: 'Leave me alone with him.' The women left him, and left the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hand, and the sick man gestured: 'Return your hand to where it was.' Then he called him: 'O so-and-so, what do you find?' He said: 'I find myself well. Two beings have come to me, one black and the other white.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Which of them is closer to you?' He said: 'The black one.' He said: 'Verily, good is little, and evil is much.' He said: 'Then give me the benefit of a supplication from you, O Messenger of Allah.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Allah, forgive the much, and increase the little.' Then he said: 'What do you see?' He said: 'Good, may my father and mother be your ransom. I see the good increasing, and I see the evil fading away, and the black one has withdrawn from me.' He said: 'Which of your deeds was most controlling over you?' He said: 'I used to give water to drink.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Listen, O Salman, do you find anything strange in me?' He said: 'Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom. I have seen you in many situations, but I have never seen you in a state like today.' He said: 'I know what he is facing. There is not a vein in him but it is suffering the pain of death on its own.'
