✧ The Pool was mentioned in the presence of Ibn Ziyad, and he sent for men including Ibn Amr al-Muzani—meaning A'idh b. Amr—and sent for Abu Barzah. He came to him in two cloaks. Ibn Ziyad said: "This Muhammadite of yours is a short man." The old man heard it and said: "I never thought I would live to be reproached for the companionship of Muhammad ﷺ." He said: Ibn Ziyad reclined, and when he was embarrassed by something he would recline. A man said to him: "The emir called you to ask about the Pool: have you heard the Prophet ﷺ mention it?" He said: "Yes, I heard him, and whoever denies it, may God not give him to drink from it." Abu Sabrah al-Hudhali said: "Your father sent me to Mu'awiyah, and I met Abdullah b. Amr, who narrated to me a hadith from the Prophet ﷺ. I understood it and wrote it down with my own hand." Ibn Ziyad said to him: "I adjure you to ride the horse and make it sweat until you bring the writing." He said: "I rode it, took out the page, and brought it to him." He said: "Did you make the horse sweat?" I said: "Yes." He read the page: "In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate. This is what Abdullah b. Amr narrated from the Prophet ﷺ: Indeed God does not love the obscene or the obscene-mouthed. Then he said: 'By the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, the Hour will not come until obscenity and foul speech, bad neighborliness, and severing of ties of kinship appear, and until the trustworthy is betrayed and the treacherous is trusted.' Then he said: 'The likeness of the believer is like a palm tree: it falls and you eat good fruit, then it drops but does not spoil or break. And the likeness of the believer is like a piece of red gold: it is put into the fire and blown upon, but it does not change or diminish. By the One in whose hand is my soul, the best of martyrs are the just, and the best of Muslims is the one from whose tongue and hand Muslims are safe, and the best emigration is to abandon what God and His Messenger have forbidden.' And he said: 'Your appointment is my Pool, whose width is like its length, its expanse as between Aylah and Makkah. Its pitchers are as numerous as the stars of the sky. Its drink is whiter than silver. Whoever comes to it and drinks from it will never thirst after it.'"
