✧ My father married me to a woman from Quraysh. When she entered upon me, I think he said: I did not turn to her, or I did not pay attention to her, because of the worship I was engaged in, of fasting and prayer. Amr b. al-As entered upon her and said to her: "How did you find your husband?" She said: "Like the best of men, and like the best of husbands, from a man. He did not uncover any side for us, and he did not approach any bed for us." He came to me and bit me with his tongue, and said: "I married you to a woman of noble lineage, and you did such and such." Then he went to the Prophet ﷺ and complained about me to him. He said: The Prophet ﷺ sent for me and said to me: "Do you fast during the day?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Do you stand in prayer at night?" I said: "Yes." He said: "But I fast and break my fast, and I pray and sleep." Then he said to me: "Read the Quran in a month." He said: I said: "I find myself stronger than that." He said: "Then read it in fifteen days." I said: "I find myself stronger than that." One of them, either Husayn or Mughirah, said: "Then read it every three days." Then he said: "And fast three days every month." I said: "I am stronger than that." He said: He kept reducing for me until he said: "Fast one day and break your fast one day. That is the best fasting, and it is the fasting of Dawud."
