Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar

✧ Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, from Abu al-Bakhtari, from 'Ubaydah, from Ibn al-Zubayr, from the Prophet ﷺ, similarly. No one corroborated Shu'bah in this narration of his from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib; they contradicted him in it. Hammad b. Salamah and Jarir b. 'Abd al-Hamid said: from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, from Abu Yahya, from Ibn 'Abbas, that two men brought a dispute to the Messenger of God ﷺ. I think this discrepancy came only from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, because his hadith had become confused. 'Ubaydah did not narrate from Ibn al-Zubayr any hadith going back to the Prophet other than this one through a sound chain. He said: I heard Abu Musa Muhammad b. al-Muthanna say: I copied this hadith from the book of Ghundar, from Shu'bah, from 'Ata', from Abu al-Bakhtari, from 'Ubaydah, from Ibn al-Zubayr, from the Prophet ﷺ, but I did not hear it from him.
