✧ On the day of Badr I came upon Abu Jahl while iron armor was piled upon him, as if he were a piece of iron. He had been forced to sit down. I took his sword, and he raised his head and said, 'Are you our little shepherd in Makkah?' He said: So I struck him with my sword until he became cold. Then I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'I have killed Abu Jahl.' 'Aqil, who was a captive with the Prophet ﷺ, said, 'You lie; you did not kill him.' I said, 'Rather you are the liar, O enemy of Allah, you deaf one! By Allah, I have killed him.' He said, 'Then what is his mark?' I said, 'On his thigh there is a ring like the ring of such-and-such,' referring to a mark on his thigh. He said, 'You have spoken the truth.'

machine translationMost of what Salmā b. ʿAbdullāh b. Salmā narrates from those he narrates from is not corroborated (lā yutābaʿ ʿalayhi), and most of what he relates has been shared with others in it, and what he narrates is tolerable.
