✧ The Children of Israel appointed a caliph over them after Musa ﷺ. He stood praying one moonlit night on the roof of Bayt al-Maqdis, and he recalled things he had done. He went out and let himself down by a rope, and by morning the rope was left hanging in the mosque while he had gone. He went on until he came to a people on the shore of the sea, and found them making bricks. He asked them, 'What do you charge for these bricks?' They told him, and he made bricks with them. He ate from the work of his own hands. When it was time for prayer, he stood and prayed. The workers reported to their landowner that among them was a man who did such-and-such. He sent for him, but he refused to come three times. Then he came to him riding on his mount. When he saw him, he fled, and the landowner followed him and overtook him. He said, 'Wait, let me speak to you.' He stood until he spoke to him and told him his story. When he told him that he had been a king and that he had fled out of fear of Allah, he said, 'I think I will follow you.' So he followed him and worshipped Allah until they both died at Rumaylah in Egypt. 'Abdullah said, 'If I had been there, I would have been guided to their graves from the description of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he described to us.'
