✧ Al-Aqib and al-Sayyid came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he wanted to invoke mutual curse (mubahalah) with them. One of them said to his companion: 'Let us not invoke mutual curse with him, for if he is a prophet and we curse him, neither we nor our descendants after us will prosper.' They said to him: 'We will give you what you asked for, so send with us a trustworthy man, and do not send with us anyone but a trustworthy man.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I will certainly send with you a truly trustworthy man, a man truly worthy of trust.' He said: 'Arise, O Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah.' When he stood, he said: 'This is the trustworthy one of this ummah.'

machine translationShuʿbah narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from Ḥudhayfah. Muslim also recorded it for al-Thawrī from Abū Isḥāq in the same way. Isrāʾīl differed from the two of them, narrating it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd, but the statement of Isrāʾīl is not established.

machine translationIsrāʾīl narrates it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from Ibn Masʿūd, and al-Thawrī corroborated him. Shuʿbah narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from Ḥudhayfah. It seems that the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) report is the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd.
