حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ:
كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا نِسَاءٌ فَاسْتَأْذَنَهُ بَعْضُنَا أَنْ يَسْتَخْصِيَ أَوْ قَالَ: لَوْ أَذِنْتَ لَنَا لَاخْتَصَيْنَا فَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَنَا، وَرَخَّصَ لَنَا فِي الِاسْتِمْتَاعِ بِالثَّوْبِ.

✧ We used to go on expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we had no women with us. Some of us sought his permission to castrate, or he said: “If you permitted us, we would castrate ourselves,” but he did not permit us. He permitted us to enjoy (temporary marriage) with a garment.
