✧ What Abu Wa'il Shaqiq b. Salamah narrated from Abdullah

حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: نَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ. وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ خَالِدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ: نَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ:

كُنَّا بِبَابِ عَبْدِ اللهِ نَنْتَظِرُهُ فَأَبْطَأَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ: أَنَا أُخْرِجُهُ لَكُمْ، فَدَخَلَ إِلَيْهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ بِمَكَانِكُمْ، مَا يَمْنَعُنِي أَنْ أَخْرُجَ إِلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا كَرَاهَةَ أَنْ أُمِلَّكُمْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَتَخَوَّلُنَا بِالْمَوْعِظَةِ كَرَاهَةَ السَّآمَةِ عَلَيْنَا

✧ We were at the door of 'Abdullah waiting for him, and he was delayed. Yazid b. Mu'awiyah said, 'I will bring him out for you.' He entered upon him, and 'Abdullah came out to us and said, 'I know you are there. Nothing prevents me from coming out to you except that I dislike wearying you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to give us admonition intermittently, out of dislike of making it tedious for us.'
