✧ I was one day in the mosque, and Abu Jahl came and said: 'I have vowed to God that if I see Muhammad, I will step on his neck.' So I went out to the Messenger of God ﷺ, entered upon him, and informed him of what Abu Jahl had said. He went out angry until he entered the mosque, and he was in a hurry to enter through the door, but he jumped over the wall. I said: 'This is an evil day.' I hurried, and the Messenger of God ﷺ entered and recited: 'Recite in the name of your Lord who created, created man from a clinging substance. Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous.' When he reached the part concerning Abu Jahl: 'No! Indeed, man transgresses because he sees himself self-sufficient,' a man said to Abu Jahl: 'O Abu al-Hakam, this is Muhammad.' Abu Jahl said: 'Do you not see what I see? The horizon of the sky has been blocked against me.' When the Messenger of God ﷺ reached the end of the surah, he prostrated.
