✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out from Madinah to Tabūk, he left ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib ؓ behind. ʿAlī said, "O Messenger of Allah, will you leave me behind after you when I have never stayed behind from you in any expedition?" He said, "O ʿAlī, go back." ʿAlī said, "O Messenger of Allah, the hypocrites will say that you left me behind because you found me burdensome." He said, "O ʿAlī, are you not pleased that you are to me as Hārūn was to Mūsā, except that there is no prophet after me? So go back and act as my deputy over my family and your family."
