حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ قَالَ: نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي بِخَطِّهِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ:

كَانَتْ لِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عِدَةٌ فَلَمَّا فُتِحَتْ قُرَيْظَةُ جِئْتُ لِيُنْجِزَ لِي مَا وَعَدَنِي فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: مَنْ يَسْتَغْنِ يُغْنِهِ اللهُ، وَمَنْ يَقْنَعْ يُقْنِعْهُ اللهُ، فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي: لَا جَرَمَ لَا أَسْأَلُهُ شَيْئًا

✧ I had a promise from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When Qurayzah was conquered, I came so he could fulfill what he had promised me. I heard him saying: “Whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will enrich him; whoever is content, Allah will make him content.” I said to myself: No doubt, I will not ask him for anything.
