The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the prayer place on the day of Aḍḥā or Fiṭr. Then he finished, stood up, and admonished the people, and he commanded the people to give charity. He said: "O people, give charity." Then he left and passed by the women and said: "O company of women, give charity, for I have been shown that you are the majority of the people of the Fire." They said: "And why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "You curse frequently and you are ungrateful to your spouse. And I have not seen any who are lacking in intellect and religion more able to take away the wits of a firm man than one of you, O company of women." They said to him: "What is the deficiency in our religion and our intellect, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half the testimony of a man?" They said: "Yes." He said: "That is from the deficiency of her intellect. And is it not the case that when a woman menstruates she does not pray and does not fast? That is from the deficiency of her religion."
