The Prophet ﷺ used to pray between the time he finished the ʿIshāʾ prayer and the dawn eleven rak‘ahs, giving the salām after every two rak‘ahs, and praying the Witr with one. He would prostrate a prostration about as long as one of you would take to recite fifty verses before raising his head. When the muʾadhdhin fell silent after the dawn call and the dawn had become clear to him, he would stand and pray two light rak‘ahs, then lie down on his right side until the muʾadhdhin came to him for the iqāmah, and he would go out with him.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Zarqānī

machine translationRegarding the route of ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith and Yūnus from Ibn Shihāb, Muslim indicated that both narrations are preserved (maḥfūẓ), because the condition for irregularity (shādhdh) is that reconciling them is impossible, and reconciling them has been possible.

  • Ibn Rajab

machine translationAl-Awzāʿī was not alone in transmitting this from al-Zuhrī; rather, ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith corroborated him on it, as Muslim recorded.
