Kaʿb and Bujayr, the sons of Zuhayr, set out. Then he mentioned the hadith about the conversion of Bujayr to Islam, and what Kaʿb said in verse about him, then Kaʿb's coming to the Prophet ﷺ, his conversion to Islam, and his reciting of his ode, the beginning of which is: "Suʿād has gone far, and my heart today is sick with love, enslaved by her, not ransomed, in fetters. And Suʿād on the morning of separation, when they departed, was but a soft-voiced one with lowered glance, her eyes lined with kohl. She reveals a gleaming row of teeth, when she smiles, with a coolness, as if it were wine drunk again and again from a cup." And he mentioned the ode in full, and it is forty-eight verses, and in it: "I was told that the Messenger of Allah has threatened me, yet pardon is hoped for from the Messenger of Allah. Gently, O messenger of the One who gave you the gift of the Furqān, in which are admonitions and detailed explanation. Do not take up the words of the slanderers, for I have not sinned, even though many tales have been told about me. Indeed the Messenger is a light by which one is illuminated, and a drawn sword from among the swords of Allah, among a band of young men of Quraysh, one of whom said in the valley of Makkah when they accepted Islam: 'Depart!'"
