A ruler had summoned Qaʿnab al-Tamīmī and appointed him to the judgeship, but he refused. The ruler kept pressing him until he accepted. When he left him with his letter of appointment, he threw it away and went into hiding. He said: The ruler sent people to look for him. While they were searching for him, the house in which he was hiding collapsed on him, and they did not realize anything until his funeral bier was brought out to them.
