I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at al-Abṭaḥ in a red tent. Then Bilāl came out and set out water for ablution for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he called the adhān, placing his two fingers in his ears, and he turned around during his adhān.

machine translationIf this statement of his is a declaration of weakness, as is my assumption, then know that its defect is that the aforementioned ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, his father and his grandfather are all of unknown condition.

in سنن البيهقي الكبرى, p. 1884 - Ibn Khuzaymah
machine translationI do not remember this wording except from Ḥajjāj b. Arṭāh, and I do not understand whether Ḥajjāj heard from ʿAwn b. Abī Juḥayfah or not, so I doubt the authenticity of this report because of this defect.
machine translationIt is said: The hadith of Abū Juḥayfah is good and authentic (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ).
machine translationGood and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ). Mughulṭāy said: This is not a declaration of soundness for the ḥadīth of Ḥajjāj; rather he meant to declare sound the ḥadīth of Abū Juḥayfah in itself, and likewise it is sound in its origin.
machine translationWhen al-Ishbīlī mentioned a hadith with this chain of transmission from Abū Aḥmad, he followed it with his statement: The hadith of Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī is more authentic.
