The Prophet ﷺ wrote to Muʿādh b. Jabal ؓ that whoever of the Muslims accepts Islam has what the Muslims have, and owes what they owe; and whoever remains upon Judaism or Christianity, then upon every adult is one dinar, or its equivalent in Maʿāfir cloth, male or female, free or slave. And on every thirty cattle is a tabīʿ or a tabīʿah (a calf in its second year), and on every forty is a musinnah (a cow in its third year). And on every forty camels is a bint labūn (a she-camel in its third year). And on what the sky waters, or what is watered by flowing springs, is the tithe (one tenth), and on what is watered with the bucket is half the tithe.
