( أَخْبَرَنَا ) أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَا: ثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، أَنْبَأَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ( ح ) وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، ثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أَنْبَأَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أَنْبَأَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أَنْبَأَ مَالِكٌ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ ذَكَرَ الْمَجُوسَ، فَقَالَ: مَا أَدْرِي كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ فِي أَمْرِهِمْ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ - ؓ: أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: سُنُّوا بِهِمْ سُنَّةَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ

يرويه جعفر بن محمد واختلف عنه فرواه مالك من رواية أبي علي عبيد الله بن عبد المجيد الحنفي عنه عن جعفر بن محمد عن أبيه عن جده علي بن الحسين وخالفه أصحاب مالك لم يقولوا فيه عن جده وكذلك رواه الثوري وسليمان بن بلال وعبد الله بن إدريس وحفص بن غياث وأنس بن عياض وأبو عاصم النبيل عن جعفر بن محمد ولم يسمع أبو عاصم من جعفر بن محمد غيره وعبد الوهاب الثقفي والقاسم بن معن وابن جريج وعلي بن غراب وغيرهم عن جعفر عن أبيه مرسلا عن عبد الرحمن بن عوف لم يذكروا فيه علي بن الحسين وهو الصواب حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن سعدان ثنا شعيب بن أيوب نبا أبو داود الحفري وأبو نعيم عن سفيان عن جعفر عن أبيه قال سأل عمر عبد الرحمن بن عوف عن المجوس فقال سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول سنوا بهم سنة أهل الكتاب
machine translationJaʿfar b. Muḥammad narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Mālik narrated it, in the transmission of Abū ʿAlī ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Ḥanafī, from him, from Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad, from his father, from his grandfather ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn. The companions of Mālik contradicted him; they did not say in it "from his grandfather". Likewise it was narrated by al-Thawrī, Sulaymān b. Bilāl, ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs, Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth, Anas b. ʿIyāḍ and Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl from Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad (Abū ʿĀṣim heard nothing else from Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad). ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī, al-Qāsim b. Maʿn, Ibn Jurayj, ʿAlī b. Gharāb and others narrated it from Jaʿfar, from his father, as mursal, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, without mentioning ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn in it, and this is the correct version. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Saʿdān narrated to us: Shuʿayb b. Ayyūb narrated to us: Abū Dāwūd al-Ḥafarī and Abū Nuʿaym informed us, from Sufyān, from Jaʿfar, from his father, who said: ʿUmar asked ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf about the Magians, and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Treat them according to the custom of the People of the Book."
