I was the closest of people to al-Mukhtār – meaning the liar. He said: One day I entered upon him and he said: "You have entered just after Jibrīl got up from this chair." He said: So I reached for the hilt of the sword and said: I was only waiting to walk between this one's head and his body, until I remembered a hadith that ʿAmr b. al-Ḥamiq al-Khuzāʿī may God be pleased with him narrated to me, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "If a man gives another man security for his life, and then kills him, a banner of treachery will be raised for him on the Day of Resurrection." So I held back from him.

machine translationWakīʿ said it from Abū Laylā without naming him. And Muslim b. Ibrāhīm said, from ʿAbdullāh b. Maysarah al-Ḥārithī, from Abū ʿUkāshah, from Rifāʿah b. Shaddād, from Sulaymān b. Ṣurad. The first is closer to the correct view: Abū ʿUkāshah al-Hamdānī, from Rifāʿah b. Shaddād, from ʿAmr b. al-Ḥamiq, for the ḥadīth of ʿAmr b. al-Ḥamiq is preserved (maḥfūẓ) on this topic.
