( أَخْبَرَنَا ) أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ: عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، أَنْبَأَ يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ مُدْرِكِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ الْأَحْمَسِيِّ:
أَنَّهُ كَانَ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ ؓ فَذَكَرُوا رَجُلًا شَرَى نَفْسَهُ يَوْمَ نَهَاوَنْدَ، فَقَالَ: ذَاكَ وَاللهِ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ خَالِي زَعَمَ النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ أَلْقَى بِيَدَيْهِ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ. فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ: كَذَبَ أُولَئِكَ بَلْ هُوَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُا الْآخِرَةَ بِالدُّنْيَا
