A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about the time of prayer. He said: "Pray these two days with us." When the sun had passed its zenith, he commanded Bilāl, who called the adhān; then he commanded him and he called the iqāmah, meaning for the Ẓuhr. Then he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the ʿAṣr while the sun was high, white and clear. Then he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the Maghrib when the rim of the sun had disappeared. Then he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the ʿIshāʾ when the twilight had disappeared. Then he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the Fajr when the dawn had risen. On the next day he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the Ẓuhr and delayed it until it was cool, and he made it quite cool. And he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the ʿAṣr while the sun was white, and he delayed it further than it had been the day before. And he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the Maghrib before the twilight disappeared. And he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the ʿIshāʾ when a third of the night had passed. And he commanded him and he called the iqāmah for the Fajr and prayed it when it was bright. Then he said: "The time of your prayer is as you have seen." Abū Ayyūb added in his narration: Then he said: "Where is the one who asked about the time of prayer?" The man said: "I am, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "The time of your prayer is between what you have seen.
