Māʿiz b. Mālik came and confessed to adultery before the Prophet ﷺ three times. The Prophet ﷺ asked about him, then ordered that he be stoned, so he was stoned. We threw at him potsherds, hard stones, and bones. We did not dig a pit for him, and we did not bind him. He went off running toward the Ḥarrah, and we pursued him, then he stood still for us, and we threw at him until he fell still. The Prophet ﷺ neither asked forgiveness for him nor reviled him.
