  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationIts chain is weak (ḍaʿīf).

  • Qurṭubī

machine translationIt is not a sound report, because it revolves around Muslim b. Khālid al-Zanjī, and he is not relied upon as evidence.

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translational-Bayhaqī said: al-Zanjī is Muslim b. Khālid, the teacher of al-Shāfiʿī, and he is weak (ḍaʿīf). al-Bukhārī said: Ibn Jurayj did not hear from ʿAmr. Likewise, using ʿAmr b. Shuʿayb from his father from his grandfather as evidence is disputed.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationEven though there is some weakness (layn) in the chain of this hadith, the mutawātir reports on the subject of this chapter support it.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThere is some weakness (layn) in its chain.

machine translationThere is another defect, which is that Muslim b. Khālid was contradicted in it. ʿAbd al-Razzāq and Ḥajjāj narrated it from Ibn Jurayj from ʿAmr as a mursal report, as al-Dāraquṭnī also mentioned in his Sunan. There is also disagreement about it concerning Muslim: ʿUthmān b. Muḥammad b. ʿUthmān al-Rāzī narrated it from him, from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Abū Hurayrah, as a raised (marfūʿ) report with the same wording. al-Dāraquṭnī also recorded it in his Sunan, and so did Ibn ʿAdī, by this route. Then he said: these two chains, meaning this one and the one before it, are known through Muslim b. Khālid.

machine translationThe two of them did not declare it weak.
