There were two women who were co-wives, and there was a quarrel between them. One of them threw a stone at the other and caused her to miscarry a boy whose hair had already grown, stillborn, and the woman herself died. So he ruled that the blood-money be paid by the ʿāqilah (the paternal kin). Then her uncle said: "She caused a boy to be miscarried, O Messenger of Allah, whose hair had already grown." The father of the killer said: "He is lying. By Allah, he did not cry out, nor did he reason, nor drink, nor eat. Is the like of him to be left unavenged?" The Prophet ﷺ said: "Is this the rhymed speech of the Jāhiliyyah and its soothsaying that I am hearing? For the child there is a ghurrah (a slave)."
