That a woman in Ṣanʿāʾ, whose husband was away from her, had left in her care a son of his from another wife, a boy called Aṣīl. After her husband left, the woman took a lover, and she said to her lover: "This boy will expose us, so kill him." He refused, so she withheld herself from him, and then he obeyed her. The man, another man, the woman and her servant agreed together on killing him, and they killed him. Then they cut him into pieces, put him in a leather bag, and threw him into a well on the edge of the village, in which there was no water. Then the woman cried out, the people gathered, and they went out searching for the boy. He said: A man passed by the well in which the boy was, and green flies came out of it. We said: "By God, there is a carcass in this." Her lover was with us, and a trembling seized him. So we took him away and detained him, and we sent a man who brought the boy out. Then we seized the man and he confessed, and he told us the account. The woman, the other man and her servant also confessed. So Yaʿlā, who was the governor at that time, wrote about their case, and ʿUmar ؓ wrote back to him ordering that they all be killed. He said: "By God, if all the people of Ṣanʿāʾ had taken part in killing him, I would have killed them all."
