A man came to Ibn Masʿūd ؓ and said: "A man divorced his wife last night (a hundred times)." He said: "Did you say it in one go?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Do you want your wife to be separated from you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "It is as you said." He said: And another man came to him and said: "A man divorced his wife last night (as many times as) the number of the stars." He said: "Did you say it in one go?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Do you want your wife to be separated from you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "It is as you said." Muḥammad said: Then he mentioned a word about the women of the people of the earth which I do not remember. He said: "Allah has made clear the matter of divorce. Whoever divorces as Allah commanded him, it has become clear for him; and whoever is confused about it, we make his confusion remain with him. By Allah, you shall not confuse yourselves and have us bear it for you. It is as you say."
