When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), he ordered the leather mat, and it was spread out. Then he put dates and barley meal (sawīq) on it, and he called the people, and they ate. He said: "The wedding feast on the first day is a right, on the second day it is customary (maʿrūf), and on the third day it is showing off and seeking reputation."
