When God granted to His Messenger on the day of Ḥunayn what He granted, he distributed it among the people, among those whose hearts were to be reconciled, and he did not distribute — or he did not give — anything to the Anṣār. It was as if he found (or as if they found) that they had not received what the people had received. So he addressed them and said: "O company of the Anṣār, did I not find you astray, and God guided you through me? You were divided, and God united you through me. You were poor, and God enriched you through me." Each time he said something, they said: "God and His Messenger are more generous." He said: "What prevents you from answering?" They said: "God and His Messenger are more generous." He said: "If you wished, you could have said: You came to us with such and such. Are you not pleased that the people go away with sheep and camels, while you go back to your dwellings with the Messenger of God? Were it not for the Hijrah, I would be a man of the Anṣār. If the people took one valley or mountain pass, I would take the valley and the pass of the Anṣār. The Anṣār are the inner garment (shiʿār) and the people are the outer garment (dithār). You will meet after me preferential treatment of others, so be patient until you meet me at the Pond."
