I was with ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah, who was a judge, when some people came to him disputing over the inheritance of a woman called Fukayhah bint Samʿān. This one began to say: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, son of Samʿān," and that one said: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, son of Samʿān," and he did not understand. So a man got up and wrote down their case on a sheet, then brought it to him, and he read it and said: "Yes, I have understood."
