ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) addressed the people at al-Jābiyah and said: "Whoever wishes to ask about the Quran, let him go to Ubayy b. Kaʿb; whoever wishes to ask about the laws of inheritance, let him go to Zayd b. Thābit; whoever wishes to ask about jurisprudence, let him go to Muʿādh b. Jabal; and whoever wishes to ask about wealth, let him come to me, for God Most High has made me its treasurer and distributor."
