From the endowment (ṣadaqah) of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, he said: ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. ʿAbdillāh b. ʿAbdillāh b. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb copied it out for me: Concerning Thamgh: it is for Ḥafṣah as long as she lives, she spends its fruit where Allah shows her; if she dies, then it goes to the person of sound judgement among her family. Its principal shall never be bought, and it shall never be given away. Whoever takes charge of it, there is no blame on him regarding its fruit if he eats from it, or feeds a friend, without accumulating wealth from it. What remains of its fruit beyond that is for the beggar, the deprived, the guest, the relatives, the wayfarer, and in the cause of Allah; she spends it where Allah shows her among these. If she dies, then it goes to the person of sound judgement among my children. And the hundred wasqs which Muḥammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, granted me at the valley, with my own hand I have not squandered them; they are together with Thamgh, under the same rule that I have commanded, and if the guardian of Thamgh wishes, he may buy slaves from its fruit for its labour. Muʿayqīb wrote it and ʿAbdullāh b. al-Arqam witnessed it: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is what the servant of Allah ʿUmar, Commander of the Believers, bequeathed, should anything happen to him: that Thamgh, and Ṣirmah ibn al-Akwaʿ, and the slave who is in it, and the hundred shares at Khaybar, and its slaves who are in it, and the hundred, meaning the wasq which Muḥammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, granted him, are to be managed by Ḥafṣah as long as she lives, then by the person of sound judgement among her family. It is not to be sold or bought. He spends it where he sees fit, on the beggar, the deprived, and the relatives. There is no blame on its guardian if he eats from it, or feeds others, or buys a slave for it from it.
