I bought some camels and sent them out to the pasture reserve (al-ḥimā). When they had grown fat, I brought them back. He said: ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ entered the market and saw fat camels, and he said: "Whose camels are these?" It was said: "ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar's." He said: So he began to say: "O ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar, well done, well done, son of the Commander of the Believers!" He said: So I came to him hurrying, and I said: "What is the matter, O Commander of the Believers?" He said: "What are these camels?" I said: "They are lean camels; I bought them and sent them to the pasture reserve, seeking what the Muslims seek." He said: Then he said: "Pasture the camels of the son of the Commander of the Believers! Water the camels of the son of the Commander of the Believers! O ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar, go to your capital, and put the rest of it in the treasury (bayt māl) of the Muslims."
