I passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was urinating, and I greeted him with salām, but he did not return my greeting until he went to a wall and scraped it with a staff he had with him. Then he placed his hands on the wall and wiped his face and his forearms, and then he returned my greeting.

machine translationAl-Khaṭṭābī said: The hadith of Abū al-Juhaym concerning wiping the forearms is not sound (lā yaṣiḥḥ), meaning that the narration of whoever narrated the wiping of the forearms in it is not sound.
in سنن البيهقي الكبرى, p. 1009 - Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationOf the narrations that describe the manner of tayammum, none is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) except the hadith of Abū Juhaym and that of ʿAmmār. Everything other than these two is either weak (ḍaʿīf) or disputed as to whether it is raised (marfūʿ) or stopped (mawqūf), and the preponderant view is that it is not raised.

machine translationOf the hadiths reported on the manner of tayammum, none is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) except the hadith of Abū Juhaym.

machine translationʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Hurmuz al-Aʿraj did not hear it from Ibn al-Ṣimmah; he only heard it from ʿUmayr, the freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbās, from Ibn al-Ṣimmah.

machine translationThe teacher of al-Shāfiʿī and the teacher of his teacher are both weak (ḍaʿīf); neither can be used as evidence. There is another defect in it, which is the addition of scraping the wall: no one brought it except Ibrāhīm, whereas the hadith was narrated by a group as we have mentioned, and none of their versions contains this addition. An addition is only accepted from a trustworthy narrator (thiqah).
