حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا رَافِعٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ كَانَ اسْمُهَا بَرَّةَ فَقِيلَ: تُزَكِّي نَفْسَهَا فَسَمَّاهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زَيْنَبَ.

✧ Zaynab's name was Barrah, and it was said: She praises herself. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named her Zaynab.
