✧ When this verse was revealed: “And warn your closest kindred,” the Prophet ﷺ gathered members of his household, and thirty gathered. They ate and drank. He said to them, “Who will guarantee my debts and promises for me, and be with me in Paradise, and be my successor among my family?” A man—Sharik did not name him—said, “O Messenger of God, you were an ocean; who can undertake this?” He then spoke to another. He offered it to his household, and Ali said, “I will.”
