✧ A man from the Children of Israel said, 'Tonight I will give my wealth in charity.' He went out with it and placed it in the hand of an adulteress. In the morning people were saying, 'Charity was given to so-and-so the adulteress.' Then he went out with more wealth and placed it in the hand of a thief. In the morning the people of the city were saying, 'Charity was given to so-and-so the thief.' Then he went out with more wealth and placed it in the hand of a rich man and said, 'If I wished, I could say, "He does not know where he placed it."' The man returned to himself and said, 'I placed my charity with an adulteress, then I placed it with a thief, then I placed it with a rich man!' He was shown in a dream: 'Your charity has been accepted. As for the adulteress, perhaps she will refrain from her fornication. As for the thief, perhaps it will enrich him so he stops stealing. As for the rich man, perhaps he will take heed and spend from his wealth.'
