machine translationThis is a hadith we only know from the hadith of Ḥakīm al-Athram, from Abū Tamīmah, from Abū Hurayrah. I say: Of this Ḥakīm, nothing is known except this hadith and a little else; Abū Aḥmad said this. al-Bukhārī said: "He is not corroborated in it." He said: "No hearing (samāʿ) of Abū Tamīmah from Abū Hurayrah is known." Ibn al-Madīnī was asked about Ḥakīm and said: "This one has wearied us." Ibn al-Qaṭṭān found it defective (aʿallahu) from another angle, found in the narration of Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah and one of the narrations of al-Nasāʾī. He said: It is from the narration of Suhayl b. Abī Ṣāliḥ, from al-Ḥārith b. Mukhallad, from Abū Hurayrah. This al-Ḥārith was narrated from by Suhayl and Bishr b. Saʿīd, and his condition is not known. He also found the second narration of al-Nasāʾī defective because of ʿAbd al-Malik b. Muḥammad al-Ṣanʿānī, for al-Bustī said that he was alone in transmitting it, and Abū Ḥātim said: "His hadith is to be written down." And Sulaymān b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Sharaḥbīl: Ibn Maʿīn said: "There is nothing wrong with him," and Abū Ḥātim said: "He is truthful (ṣadūq), but he is the one who narrates most from the weak and the unknown." He said: "He was at a level that if a man had fabricated a hadith for him, he would not have understood or discerned it."

machine translationIn the chain of this narration is Dāwūd b. al-Muḥabbar, whose condition is well known. In another narration Abū Hurayrah said: This is not established.
