✧ I went out with my father to visit Ali b. Abi Talib during an illness that had befallen him, which had left him weak. He said: My father said to him: What keeps you in this abode of yours? If your appointed time were to overtake you, none would attend to you but the Bedouins of Juhaynah. You should be carried to Madinah, for if your appointed time overtakes you, your companions will attend to you and pray over you. Ali said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ pledged to me that I would not die until I am appointed as a commander, then this—meaning his beard—would be dyed with the blood of this—meaning his head. So he was killed, and Abu Fadalah was killed alongside Ali on the day of Siffin.
