✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while a man from Muzaynah asked him about a stray camel. He said: "With it are its own shoes and its own water-skin; it eats trees and comes to water, so leave it until its owner finds it." He said: And he asked him about a stray sheep. He said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf; gather it to yourself until its owner comes." And he asked him about a stolen camel found in its grazing grounds. He said: "In it is its price, twice over, and a painful beating." He said: "As for what is taken from its resting place, in that is amputation, if what is taken reaches the value of a shield." Then he asked him: "O Messenger of Allah, what about lost property we find on a frequented road?" He said: "Announce it for a year; if its owner comes, [give it to him]; otherwise it is yours." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what about what is found in ancient ruins?" He said: "In it, and in buried treasure, is the fifth."
