✧ Three Muslim men sat with Marwan in Madinah and heard him speaking about the signs, that the first of them would be the emergence of the Dajjal. He said: The group left and went to Abdullah b. Amr and told him what they had heard from Marwan about the signs. Abdullah said, "Marwan said nothing. I have memorized from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a hadith concerning that which I have not forgotten since. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'The first sign to emerge will be the rising of the sun from its west, and the emergence of the beast at forenoon. Whichever of them comes before its companion, the other will follow on its heels.'" Then Abdullah said — and he used to read the scriptures — "I think the first of them to emerge will be the rising of the sun from its west. That is because whenever it sets, it comes beneath the Throne and prostrates and asks permission to return, and permission is given to it to return, until when Allah wills that it rise from its west, it does as it used to do: it comes beneath the Throne and prostrates and asks permission to return, but nothing is answered to it. Then it asks permission to return, but nothing is answered to it. Then it asks permission, but nothing is answered to it, until when as much of the night has passed as Allah wills to pass, and it knows that if permission were given to it to return, it would not reach the east, it says, 'My Lord, how far is the east! Who will be with me among the people?' Until when the horizon becomes like a ring, it asks permission to return, and it is said to it, 'From your place, rise.' So it rises upon the people from its west." Then Abdullah recited this verse: "On the day when some of the signs of your Lord come, a soul's faith will not benefit it if it had not believed before or earned good through its faith."
