حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ

أَرْبَعٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ فَهُوَ مُنَافِقٌ، أَوْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ الْأَرْبَعِ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا: إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ، وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ، وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ، وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ

Translation

✧ Four traits, whoever has them is a hypocrite, or if he has one trait of the four, he has a trait of hypocrisy until he gives it up: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks it, when he makes a covenant he betrays, and when he argues he acts wickedly.
