✧ Umar b. al-Khattab saw Utarid selling a silk brocade garment. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, I saw Utarid selling a silk brocade garment. Would you buy it and wear it for delegations, for Eid, and for Friday? He said: Only one who has no share (I think he said: in the Hereafter) wears silk. He said: Then some garments of siyara' silk were gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he gave Ali b. Abi Talib a garment, and gave Usamah b. Zayd a garment, and sent Umar b. al-Khattab a garment. He said to Ali: Tear it into head covers for the women. Umar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, I heard you say about it what you said, then you sent me a garment. He said: I did not send it to you to wear it, but to sell it. As for Usamah, he wore it and went about in it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept looking at him. When Usamah saw him fixing his gaze on him, he said: O Messenger of Allah, you clothed me with it. He said: Tear it into head covers for the women, or as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said.
