✧ Abdullah b. Umar, when he heard something from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ or witnessed something with him, did not fall short of it or go beyond it. He said: While he was sitting and Ubayd b. Umayr was narrating stories to the people of Makkah, Ubayd b. Umayr said: The likeness of the hypocrite is like the likeness of a sheep between two flocks: if it goes toward this flock, they butt it, and if it goes toward this flock, they butt it. Abdullah b. Umar said: It is not like that. Ubayd b. Umayr became angry, and Abdullah b. Safwan was in the gathering, so he said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman, how did he say, may Allah have mercy on you? He said: He said: The likeness of the hypocrite is like the likeness of a sheep between two folds: if it goes toward this fold, they butt it, and if it goes toward this fold, they butt it. He said to him: May Allah have mercy on you, they are the same. He said: Thus I heard it, thus I heard it.
