✧ I mentioned to Abdullah b. Umar that Anas narrated to him that the Messenger of God ﷺ performed talbiyah for both ʿUmrah and Hajj. Ibn Umar said: 'May God have mercy on Anas. Anas imagined things. Did we set out with the Messenger of God ﷺ except as pilgrims? When we arrived, he commanded us to make it an ʿUmrah, except for those who had a sacrificial animal with them.' He said: I told Anas about that, and he became angry and said: 'You consider us nothing but children.'

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationSulaymān b. Ḥarb objected that Qatādah and other memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from Anas in the same way, so the disagreement concerns Anas himself. He said: Perhaps he heard the Prophet ﷺ teaching someone else how to declare the intention for Qirān (combining ḥajj and ʿumrah), and so he thought that he was declaring it for himself.
