حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ

إِذَا - يَعْنِي ضَنَّ النَّاسُ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ -، تَبَايَعُوا بِالْعِينِ، وَاتَّبَعُوا أَذْنَابَ الْبَقَرِ، وَتَرَكُوا الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ بِهِمْ بَلَاءً، فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يُرَاجِعُوا دِينَهُمْ

Translation

✧ When — meaning when people become stingy with the dinar and the dirham — they engage in ʿīnah transactions, follow the tails of cattle, and abandon jihād in the way of Allah, Allah will send down upon them a trial and will not lift it from them until they return to their religion.
