✧ Uthman looked down from the palace while he was besieged and said: I adjure by Allah, whoever witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hira when the mountain shook, and he kicked it with his foot, then said: “Be still, Hira, for on you are none but a prophet, a truthful one, or a martyr,” and I was with him. So some men responded to him. He said: I adjure by Allah, whoever witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the Pledge of al-Ridwan when he sent me to the polytheists, to the people of Makkah, and he said: “This is my hand, and this is the hand of Uthman,” and so he pledged on my behalf. So some men responded to him. He said: I adjure by Allah, whoever witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said: “Who will expand for us this house in the mosque with a house of his in Paradise?” So I bought it from my own wealth and expanded the mosque with it. So some men responded to him. He said: And I adjure by Allah, whoever witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the army of hardship when he said: “Who will spend today an accepted expenditure?” So I equipped half the army from my own wealth. He said: So some men responded to him. And I adjure by Allah, whoever witnessed Ruma whose water was being sold to the wayfarer, so I bought it from my own wealth and made it free for the wayfarer.
